How we find and verify listings
Last updated October 2, 2026
Where listings come from
Nichable is an independent directory. We gather and summarize publicly available information about opportunities for high school students, published by the organizations that run them: universities, government agencies, hospitals, museums, libraries, nonprofits, foundations and companies.
We find programs through our own research, using search, other directories, news coverage and suggestions as leads. We also use software tools, including AI-assisted research, to help find and check programs. A lead is never published on its own: every listing must trace back to a page on the running organization's own official website, and each listing links to that page.
What we check before a listing is published
- The organization's official page exists, loads, and describes the program.
- The program is open to high school students, and who is eligible (grades, location, other requirements).
- The page describes a current or upcoming cycle, not one that has ended for good.
- Deadlines and opening dates are added only when the official page states them. A listing is marked “open” only when the official page says applications are being accepted.
- It isn't a duplicate of a listing we already have.
What we leave out
We aim to exclude listings we can't tie to an official source, programs that have been discontinued, sweepstakes-style “scholarships” that mainly collect contact information, and paid services presented as opportunities. If you find one that slipped through, please tell us.
How descriptions are written
Listing descriptions are short summaries in original wording, not copies of the organization's text. Many are drafted with AI from the official page. The official page is always the authoritative source for eligibility, dates, costs and how to apply.
How listings stay current
We re-check listings' official pages on a regular schedule, and listing statuses are updated daily: when a deadline passes, the listing moves to waiting for its next cycle, and when a stated opening date arrives, it's marked open. Changes we detect are reviewed before they're applied.
What "verified" does and doesn't mean
A “verified” listing was checked against the organization's official source at a point in time. It can still be wrong, incomplete or out of date: programs change their details, our checks can miss things, and AI tools used in our research and summaries can make mistakes. If a listing and the official page disagree, the official page is correct.
Verification means confirming that a listing is real, comes from the organization's official source, and matches what that source says. It does not mean we evaluate, endorse or supervise the program. We don't screen organizations' staff, run background checks, inspect worksites or guarantee the quality, safety or outcome of any opportunity.
Before applying, confirm everything on the official page, research the organization, and involve a parent, guardian or school counselor, especially for in-person programs.
No affiliation, and nothing to pay us
Nichable is not affiliated with, endorsed by or partnered with the organizations listed. Organization names are used only to identify their programs. We don't accept applications on anyone's behalf, and we never charge students to apply. Applications go directly to the organization through its own site.
Report a problem
If a listing is wrong, outdated, or shouldn't be here, contact us (signed-in students can also use the report option on the listing). Organizations can ask us to correct or remove their listing the same way.
