Opportunities for 11th Graders (Juniors)
1069 listings accept 11th graders, and 379 are open to apply now.
Junior year has the widest choice of any grade. Most research programs, selective summer programs and internships are built for rising seniors, which means applying during 11th grade for the summer before senior year.
Because so much opens at once, the challenge is picking. Favor the programs that go deepest in what you care about, and keep an eye on deadlines: many of the strongest summer programs close between December and March of junior year.

Common questions
When do juniors apply for summer research programs?
Mostly between December and March of 11th grade, for the summer before senior year. A few close in the fall, so check deadlines early.
Are there scholarships for juniors?
Some, including essay contests and a few awards that recognize juniors before senior-year applications. Most need-based and merit college scholarships open in senior year.
How many programs should a junior apply to?
Enough that one rejection doesn't leave you with nothing. The most selective programs admit a small share of applicants, so mix a few reach programs with ones you're likely to get into.
